It’s a day that is dedicated to quality time spent with family; a day for giving thanks for all of the blessings in our life – Thanksgiving Day. What comes to mind when you recall your reasons for giving thanks? Who comes to mind? In addition to being thankful, Thanksgiving Day is also about the art of giving. Here are some ways that you can give thanks to those who deserve it and give back to your community on this Thanksgiving Day.

heartLetters from the Heart

Who are the people in your life that you are thankful for? Thanksgiving is all about giving thanks to the people in your life who deserve it, and nothing says thank you quite like an old fashioned hand written letter. A letter from the heart can be the perfect way to express your thanks. Whether to your family for their love and support or to the barista at your local coffee shop for always remembering your order and serving it with a smile – there is no reason too small to show your appreciation.

Help a Family in Need

Not all families are fortunate enough to be able to share an extravagant, home cooked meal with all of their loved ones on Thanksgiving. There are families that struggle with putting food on the table on any given day of the week and there are some people who may not have any family to spend Thanksgiving Day with – make an effort to extend your help or your home to these people, and give them a reason to be thankful in return.

Participate in a “Week of Thanks”

Why not dedicate the entire week to being thankful? Develop a plan and do something each day to give thanks or give back to your community. Maybe you want to dedicate one day to being a day of reflection, to think about all that you have to be thankful for. And another day might be dedicated to volunteering your time with a local charity. There are plenty of ways for you and your family to fill up your “Week of Thanks” and make this Thanksgiving the best one yet.

Feed the Homeless

Unfortunately, there are far too many people who will be spending their Thanksgiving Day at the local homeless shelter. Most shelters will plan to serve a special meal on Thanksgiving Day and are usually in need of as many volunteers as possible. This Thanksgiving, why not give thanks for all of your blessings by helping out those that are less fortunate. Bring your whole family TurkeyDinnerMain1for a humbling Thanksgiving Day experience.

Make a Thanksgiving Donation

Is there a specific charity or non-profit organization in your area that you are especially thankful for? This is the perfect time to make a donation, however large or small, to the charity of your choice to express your gratitude for the difference they are making and the lives they are changing in your community. These organizations couldn’t thrive without the support of their community members.
